PlanB in Mozambique

PlanB is currently investigating the possibilities for establishing an operation in Mozambique, with activities in the fields of organization and leadership development, start up of a training center in Maputo and a number of projects towards the educational system in Mozambique with a special focus on young female leaders.

The country of Mozambique is experiencing a strong economic growth with establishment of the worlds largest coal mine, large aluminium plants, extensive investments in the country from mainly China and Brazil, a growing tourism industry and trade industry with South Africa, among others. This hopefully leads to increased prosperity as well as many new job opportunities in Mozambique. However, this development also creates new challenges for companies in terms of new recruitments, organizational changes, management and leadership skills.

In addition, a growing economy and increased international co-operation, require a modern educational system and well functioning infrastructure, areas where Mozambique as a nation has great challenges and where considerable change is required in the coming years.

This is why PlanB right now is investigating the possibilities (and challenges) for establishing in Mozambique during the year ahead. Research, feasibility studies and meetings with a range of companies and public institutions are conducted in the country, in co-operation with the Danish Embassy (through DANIDA’s B2B program), Danish Industry and our local partner in Mozambique – Change Lda.

The idea is to establish a training centre in the capital Maputo with focus on both open programs and adjusted development programs within Leadership, Innovation, Change Management, Communication and Entrepreneurship.

In addition to this we keep a strong focus on activities that may affect the positive development in Mozambique in a longer perspective. This is why we, together with Change Lda have established a close contact with the ministry of education in Mozambique, with the intention of setting up concrete educational programs for teachers and administration in the public school system. The programs will focus on entrepreneurship as a discipline, education of teachers and coordination as well as administration of new education initiatives. Our aim in the next phase is to start a Scholarship Program for young female leaders with the possibility of free participation in the programs of PlanB and Change Lda.

Mozambique is a country with many possibilities and just as many challenges. It is a country in an extreme development phase, with new job opportunities but also drastically increased price levels. A country with the potential for something great, and PlanB would really like to take part in it!
