Systemteori är en bred teoribildning som går över ett flertal forskningsfält – från naturvetenskap och teknik till beteendevetenskap och humaniora. Inom organisationsforskningen är systemteori ett fruktbart angreppssätt, där man ser på organisationer som komplexa, dynamiska, målorienterade processer. Många forskare har bidragit till fältet, bland andra psykologen Kurt Lewin, Peter Senge och Edgar Schein.
Ett system är uppbyggt av regelbundet samspelande och sinsemellan relaterade grupper av aktiviteter. Systemteorin betonar särskilt relationer, hur organisationen fungerar som ett enda system, som en helhet. Äldre teorier fokuserar mer på enskildheter, vilket ger ett mer mekanistiskt sätt att se på organisationer. Systemteorin kan ses som en motreaktion mot det mekanistiska paradigmet.

PlanB’s methodology is based on systems theory, Schein’s model of organizational culture, Senge’s theories of the learning organization, and methods for action-based learning.
We have developed an original model, the Strategic Loop, which through repeated processes supports the organization in its change process.
