It is easy to spend a lot of time on the content of the strategy and less on the process. It is also easy to forget the questions that helped you to reach the answers once you have developed the strategy. The content and the answers are very important, but the process and issues that can create support and innovation are critical.

We at PlanB see strategy as a dynamic process and not something you create and implement – in a changing world there is a need for strategies (and strategists) with fast footwork. Precisely because our world – and thus our organizations – shifts so quickly, the strategy must be an involving process to get a long-term, sustainable impact.

Strategy can be viewed as an repeated process, where the organizations are continuously making adjustments as the environment is changing. It may be impossible to make long term forecasts due to new competition, technology and other changes, and therefore the strategy needs tools to give direction.

How the organization works and communicates is essential for a good strategy process. Some of the most successful elements of the strategy may have been fully developed informally from lower levels of the organization where employees have daily contact with customers.

As you well know, strategy is about to allocate the right resources at the right time to achieve organizational goals. But your strategy can be excellent – and worthless if not executed.
